WHY I WROTE A FIVE - SERIES SCI-FI HORROR NOVEL

Lying on my bed one night, I recalled my brother telling me, after he had read my memoir, My Life as a Banker, that my book made very pleasant reading and that I should consider publishing a fiction book of short stories where I would have a greater opportunity to use my descriptive ability.

It was the year 2016, and I had read the reports of the devastating effects of the zika virus pandemic. An idea came to me to write a futuristic story about babies born to infected mothers. It was purely my imagination.

I was not sure where to begin, but I sat at my computer, and the characters I chose seemed to write the story themselves.

Book One – Zeeka and the Zombies: Revenge of Zeeka, a futuristic novel set in the year 2036, serves as an introduction to this mind-boggling series.

A strange-looking man, who claimed to be a zombie, visited the Chief of Medical Staff at the Gosh Hospital to inform him that his Master Zeeka was planning revenge against the doctors because his wife, who was infected with the virus, had died while giving birth at the hospital, and their son was born deformed. He disappeared, although he was sedated and left in a locked room. Integrated into the mystery are a love story, a family drama, and a carnival massacre by 51 programmable zombies on a fictitious Caribbean island. The combination of these three aspects in this collection made it an exciting read. People who enjoy detective novels, romance fiction, or science fiction bought this book, and it became an Amazon No 1 bestseller.

Book 2 -Zeeka’s Child: Revenge of Zeeka continues the story. The detectives investigating the carnival massacre could not find out who was controlling the zombies. Secrets, lies, human flaws, and ‘skeletons in cupboards’ are revealed and exposed when a scientist who was kidnapped as a child by Master Zeeka made his appearance and revealed his true identity and the identity of Zeeka. The police started a manhunt for Zeeka.

My imagination continued to run wild when I wrote the conclusion to the story, Book 3 – Zeeka Returns; Revenge of Zeeka.

Action, adventure, high-tech weapons, nine flesh-eating zombies, and a heroic robot make their appearance. Zeeka was hiding out in the forest with his nine flesh-eating zombies while police tried to capture him. He abandoned his zombies in the forest and went to the scientist’s brother’s home to find the scientist, Dr, Steven Sharpe, to ask for his forgiveness. He had a gun in his hand, and the robot helper kicked him down the stairs, tied him up, and called the Chief of Police. He was arrested, taken to prison, where he committed suicide.

I thought that I ended the story with Book 3. You may think that I am crazy, but my character, Zeeka, haunted me. He told me that his story had not ended. He wanted to return as a ghost to beg the scientist, Steven, whom he had kidnapped and whom he loved as his own son, for forgiveness. I gave in and penned Book 4 – Zeeka’s Ghost: Revenge of Zeeka

Unresolved issues, regrets, and love are all woven together with the right mix of startling plot twists in this book. Steven forgave Zeeka because he saved his wife from dangerous kidnappers.

When I was about to relax and move on to another book, the zombie that disappeared in book one also nagged me to do a fifth story – Resurrection: Revenge of Zeeka, about his transformation. It turned out that he was the son of Master Zeeka, who brought him up among the zombies, but he was not a zombie. The police thought he was dead in the massacre at the Carnival event in February 2036. Dr, Steven Sharpe cured him of his neurological disorder, and all ended well as Good triumphed over evil.

SCREENPLAY ADAPTATION

Each mind-blowing episode is in a separate book, but I also compiled all five stories into one book – Zeeka Chronicles: Revenge of Zeeka.

It has been adapted into a five-series screenplay for a movie or TV series.

This futuristic thriller was an award winner in the Young Adult Thriller category in the Reader's Favorite International Awards 2018, winner of the gold award in the category Science Fiction in Connections Emagazine Readers' Choice Awards 2018, and it placed in the top ten finalists for science fiction in the Author Academy Global Awards 2018.

In 2025, I combined four episodes into ZEEKA AND THE ZOMBIES II. This volume was also adapted into a screenplay and was a finalist in the 13Horror-com Film & Screenplay Contest in September 2025.

It has been a rewarding journey.

Memoirs of Dr. Andrew Moonir Khan: Journey of an Educator by Mrs. Brenda C. Mohammed is a biography that follows the life of a great man while providing wonderful social and cultural commentaries on the era in which he lived. It is during the days of indentureship in Trinidad and Tobago, and readers are introduced to a period in history when few people were interested in education.

Against this backdrop, the son of uneducated, indentured immigrants from India, Mr. and Mrs. Sultan Khan, overcame all kinds of challenges to acquire the education he needed and to set an example for his generation. Thanks to his assiduity, dedication, and strong values, he was quickly promoted to school principal and subsequently to superintendent of schools. Readers encounter an educator who led by example, a man who would become the first Presiding Elder in the Presbyterian Church in Trinidad and Tobago.

This biography is well researched, and the author allows the subject to speak for himself through the narrative by making references to Dr. Khan’s own memoirs. The writing is beautiful, journalistic, and it is enriched by the social commentaries and historical references that allow readers vivid glimpses of what life was like in the first half of the twentieth century. The setting comes out clearly, and while the reader gets a clear picture of locales and places, the author catches the soul of the people in a brilliant way. Memoirs of Dr. Andrew Moonir Khan: Journey of an Educator is a book that will appeal to anyone who loves biographies of great men. It is inspiring and hugely informative.

Mrs. Brenda C. Mohammed does a great job in bringing to readers a work that will inspire them and compel them to consider their own contribution to history.

Memoirs of Dr. Andrew Moonir Khan: Journey of an Educator by Mrs. Brenda C. Mohammed is a non-fiction memoir on the life, work, and thoughts of Andrew Moonir Khan. This book is compiled together by Dr. Khan’s daughter, Brenda, but a lot of the book contains writing in Dr. Khan’s own voice and his own hand, taken from his memoirs he had written before he passed away. The book describes his parents' background as indentured Indians who migrated to Trinidad and Tobago around the turn of the last century to work on the sugarcane plantations. Both of his parents had married before and divorced, and so this was the second marriage for both of them. Andrew Khan describes their house, the tropical lushness of the surroundings, his own childhood games and interests, school and education, his first job, his career as an educator and teacher in Trinidad, his period of stay in London on a government scholarship, his involvement in the church and his faith, and his lifelong commitment to the cause of education.

What I liked about Memoirs of Dr. Andrew Moonir Khan the most is that it depicts life in Trinidad about 100 years ago, which is little known to the outside world these days. The history of so many immigrants, including Indians, who immigrated there, is one that needs to be told. I also liked that Mrs. Brenda C. Mohammed has included so many reminiscences, first-hand accounts, and memories of various people who knew Dr. Andrew Khan, all of which portray a vivid picture of the man more than a mere biography can do. Dr. Khan’s ethics, morals, and teachings are an inspiration and, above all, present a humanitarian point of view. I also very much appreciated his ideas on the importance of education and equal rights and opportunities for women everywhere. This is a short and compelling read by Mrs. Brenda C. Mohammed, which I would certainly recommend.

Memoirs of Dr. Andrew Moonir Khan: Journey of an Educator by Brenda C. Mohammed is the journey of a man who, although being the son of indentured immigrants, went on to become successful due to his courage, determination, and indomitable spirit. This memoir reveals the character of Dr. A.M. Khan, who made sure that his family and home were taken care of and sustained by the love of God, hard work, consideration for others, and the love of learning. The sincerity and precision of a gifted person are what this memoir is all about, and Dr. Khan’s passion for learning and education, being a church leader, and his rise despite being from a humble background and experiencing several setbacks, is commendable and encouraging.

Dr. Khan’s life is inspiring, and the author takes readers on an interesting journey through his life. This book has been compiled from his handwritten notes and diaries. The memoir is detailed and takes readers into the life of a great educator and church person who overcame obstacles and emerged as a hero. Dr. Khan’s rise from humble beginnings to that of a national hero is uplifting and will inspire many readers to handle their lives the way he did: with perseverance, determination, courage, and - most importantly - faith in God. This book is a must-read because it will inspire readers to become dedicated and disciplined when it comes to handling their lives.

Dr. Khan’s achievements will make readers wonder how he found the time and energy to accomplish all the things he did in his lifetime.

Memoirs of Dr. Andrew Moonir Khan: Journey of an Educator is a biographical work by Mrs. Brenda C. Mohammed focusing on the life story of a young teacher during the period of indentureship in the Caribbean. Andrew was the son of indentured immigrants from India, living and working in Trinidad and Tobago, and the tale is compiled both from the original memoirs of Dr. Khan and from recreated prose by his daughter, Brenda. The tale spans Dr. Khan’s very successful career in education, during which he was afforded international opportunities for success, and explains how he took the great life lessons that he learned from his working life out into the Presbyterian church as an Elder.

Mrs. Brenda C. Mohammed has done a wonderful job in bringing the life, philosophy, and personality of Dr. Andrew Khan to life in this compilation of teachings.

As an educator myself, I was particularly interested in Dr. Khan’s individualistic approach to students and the humanitarian way in which he achieved success.

Memoirs of Dr. Andrew Moonir Khan presents the life of an inspiring man who struggled through underprivileged circumstances to rise to the top of his field, all without losing his generosity of spirit or his creativity.

For educators, the book demonstrates how passion and planning can lead to great things in the future, but for a wider audience, the book holds value as an inspiring story of faith and commitment to one’s true path.

I would recommend this book for biography fans seeking a deep but feel-good read.

Before you publish your book, you should take steps for a successful book launch.

Try to reach readers who will benefit the most from your book. They are the ones who will be excited to read and review it. They will even talk about it and share it with their friends. Your book will get the attention it deserves. Word-of-mouth advertising from your readers is the most effective method.

You should design great-looking ads to attract buyers. You can prepare them yourself on Canva.com or pay someone to do them for you.

Here are things you need to do before the date the book is released:

1. You can set the price of your eBook to $0.99 for the first week after the book is published. [Some authors offer it for free for the first couple of days to build momentum.

2. Then revert to the list price immediately after the reduced price promotion.

3. In your ads, state that the low price is for a very limited time.

Remember that your launch price is about getting book sales. A launch price of $0.99 can boost sales. Readers will be encouraged to buy your book at a low price

If you’ve chosen proper categories, boosting sales during the first week can bump up your book’s Amazon rank within those categories. It may become a hot new release or bestseller.

Amazon rewards a strong launch by promoting your book to new readers.

Also, if you have high sales on Amazon during a book’s first week, Amazon will market your book for you.

TESTIMONY OF A CANCER SURVIVOR

The world is becoming more complicated every day. People are faced with numerous trials and tribulations.

I know that God answers prayers and works miracles. I am a walking miracle. He saved my life on many occasions.

Here is my testimony.

I almost drowned at the age of seven years when my parents took my six sisters and me to a beach in Manzanilla. My sisters were sitting on a log in the sea, and they called out to me to join them. Just as I was about to sit on the log, a huge wave threw me down, and I felt myself drowning. My sisters screamed for my father, and he swam over and pulled me up by my long hair. He took us home immediately.

I believe that the hand of God guided my father that day.

At the age of nine, I almost died of an acute appendicitis. My father rushed me to the doctor in time, and the doctor advised my father to take me to the hospital immediately to have emergency surgery performed on me, or I would die. Again, I survived.

After graduating from High School, I wanted to work immediately. I always thought that the bank was an ideal place to work because it closed at noon. I sent out applications to every branch of Barclays Bank DCO in Trinidad, but I received no replies.

Just when I was about to give up, I found a letter in the post box from the Couva branch of the bank. The manager had written me to call at the branch for an interview. However, the date of the interview had passed, as the letter was apparently delayed in the mail.

My father, who was a Senior Inspector of Schools, was at home that day and I ran to him and showed him the letter. He read it and told me to get dressed immediately. He said he would take me and explain to the bank manager what happened.

When we arrived at the bank, my father approached the manager’s secretary and asked to see the manager. He showed her the letter, which she took to the manager. He came out immediately, greeted us, and ushered us into his office. My father and the manager had a long chat, and in between their conversation, he asked me a few questions. He then told me that I would have to write an entrance examination, and the date was set.

I wrote the exam on the said date and was told that I would be advised of the result.

A couple of days later, I was sitting on the porch at home, and I saw the bank manager pull up in front of the house. I ran down to meet him. He said that I had passed the exam with flying colours and was required to start work on 3rd May. He handed me a letter of appointment. I was thrilled.

When I showed it to my parents, they were pleased, and so were my siblings. However, one of my uncle’s neighbours telephoned my uncle and told him to tell me that I should not take the job. She said that her daughter worked there, and after her probationary period was up, she was fired.

My uncle told my father what the neighbour said, and my father said to him, “Brenda is very intelligent. Whatever happened to your neighbour’s daughter will not happen to her.” He ignored what the neighbour said, and he was right.

I was of the impression that when the bank closed at 12.00 noon, we would be allowed to go home. I was very wrong. We had lots of internal work to do, and if the day’s work could not balance by even one cent, we had to stay back and find the error. Sometimes we worked late into the night.

The bank underwent several phases — from manual to mechanization, to computerization, and I was involved in all aspects of the transitions. Eventually, the bank sold all its shares in the United Kingdom, localized its operations, and changed its name to Republic Bank Limited.

That change brought many financial benefits for staff.

I worked in every department of the bank and was praised by my superiors for excellent performance. Promotions were rapid, and I moved up the ranks to senior positions and eventually to managerial positions.

I loved Banking. I loved dealing with customers, granting loans and overdrafts to businesses that improved the community in which I was assigned. I always felt a sense of achievement when I saw the change in the villages or cities in which I worked.

Women were required to retire at a younger age than men. When the time came for me to retire, I felt cheated. My staff arranged a big retirement party for me at a popular restaurant in South Trinidad. Many people from the Bank’s Head Office attended and paid me many compliments in their speeches. I still felt lost and confused, and wondered what I was to do next.

A new bank that had opened up in Trinidad wanted a General Manager.

I did not apply, but out of the blue, the Managing Director called me to ask me to meet him and another director at a restaurant in South Trinidad to discuss the position. He said that my former Managing Director at Republic Bank Limited recommended me highly. I agreed to the interview.

Over lunch, they asked me questions, and my answers pleased them. Before the lunch was over, they told me that I got the job, and they would contact me to sign the contracts as soon as they were ratified by the bank’s board.

A couple of months went by, and I did not hear from the bank. One day I received a phone call from the Manager of an Insurance Agency. He said that he heard that I had retired from Republic Bank and asked what I was doing at home. I told him that I was dabbling in art and had already framed several paintings. I also told him that I was awaiting a call from another bank about a job offer.

He said that he could offer me a job I could not refuse. Of course, I wanted to hear more and asked him to tell me about it. I was blown away when he told me that I would receive a lucrative tax-free income plus commissions in the first year, and thereafter, monthly commissions and bonuses. What he said next was unbelievable. I could work in my own time and not go to the office every day. He asked me to attend a weekly meeting at the Agency before I made a decision. I was sceptical about working in an Insurance Company, but I made an effort to attend the meeting next Monday.

I was very impressed by the format of the meeting and the achievements of the other agents. I was inclined to accept the position as an Insurance Agent, until one of the girls mentioned that I would have to study for the State Licensing exams, for both general and life insurance, and the Life Underwriting examinations. That turned me off, and I headed for the door to leave.

The Agency Manager called out to me, “Are you ready to sign up, Brenda?”

I turned around, walked towards him, and the words slipped out of my mouth, “Sure, I am ready.”

I just don’t know how that happened, but I signed up to be an Insurance Agent.

I started working and studying for the Insurance Exams, and I was doing quite well. Two weeks later, I received a call from the Managing Director of the Bank, who interviewed me.

He said that my job as General Manager was confirmed by their Board and I could start work right away. I apologised to him and told him that I had accepted another job. He expressed his disappointment, and I wondered if I did the right thing by accepting the Insurance job.

As the months and years went by I realised that taking the Insurance job was the best choice. I passed all the examinations with flying colours. Because of the sales I achieved, I qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table six years in a row. I attended the MDRT conferences in Las Vegas, Anaheim, New Orleans, Colorado, and Toronto, and they were incredible.

My life had taken a turn for the better, but then I was diagnosed with a critical illness. I had ovarian cancer. My doctor in Trinidad gave up on me, and I went abroad to Miami for treatment. The Insurance company where I worked paid all of my medical bills. I recovered miraculously and wrote a book about my cancer ordeal to help people in similar situations. For twenty years, I have been cancer-free.

The book, I am Cancer Free, became an Amazon bestseller. It also won an award in the Reader’s Favorite International Contest in 2018. I also won an award for my sci-fi horror, Zeeka Chronicles, in that same contest. I brought home two awards that year.

I continued writing, and to date, I have published 68 books, 68 audiobooks, and three screenplays.

I won several book awards and International literary awards in several countries.

My Caribbean futuristic sci-fi horror screenplay for Zeeka and the Zombies II, was selected as a finalist in the 13Horror-com Film & Screenplay Contest 2025.

My romance/mystery screenplay, The Gift of Love, was selected in the Quarterfinals Stage 32 + DramaBox Screenwriting Competition in April 2026

When I look back at my life, I see how the job at the bank, the Insurance Company, and becoming a multi-award-winning and best-selling author prepared me for a higher calling. It was as if someone had planned my life, and it was all meant to be. That someone was God.

All of my life, I have believed in God with all my heart, his promises, every word written in the Bible, and in eternal life. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour from the time I knew myself.

I am sharing with my readers a Foreword for my Poetry Book, SWEET MEDLEY, written by a renowned poet from India, Dr. Vandita Dharni.

The poet Brenda Mohammed has inked her profound musings in this exquisite bouquet of verses. The poems are infused with nostalgia, yet there is hope igniting the dark tunnel of life in all its manifestations.

Being a visionary, Brenda always has a positive approach in her poems. She is a cancer survivor who has always epitomized strength despite the vicissitudes in her life. MY MAY 2026 VACATION IN FLORIDA

I just returned from a fabulous and refreshing seven-day vacation in Florida.

Highlights were the Morikami Museum and beautiful Japanese Gardens in Del Ray Beach, Cracker Barrel Restaurant and Shop, and Flanagin's Restaurant in Weston. My husband and I were delighted to attend my grandson's High School Graduation from the Pembroke Pines Charter High School.

422 students graduated in an impressive ceremony at the Pembroke Pines City Center. The Mayor gave the Feature address.

He received several honours and will be attending University in the Fall.

On my Facebook page, there is a video where the Mayor told them to throw off their hats.

It is a fabulous video.

I wish I had stayed longer.
